Airborne 01.08.25: China eCraft Cert, Red Arrows Future, Starship Threat

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) announced the issuance of the world’s first 'Part 23' Type Certification for an electric aircraft to Liaoning General Aviation Academy’s (LGAA) RX4E. The fixed tricycle gear, high wing, four-seat aircraft made its maiden flight in 2019 and can now be used in commercial applications. The UK’s Red Arrows team could be grounded in coming years if it fails to find and purchase a replacement for its extremely aged Hawk T1 fleet. The jets, which have been in service for nearly half a century, are scheduled to retire in 2030. The Red Arrows currently operate 16 Hawk T1 jets based at RAF Wadd

NTSB Prelim: Robinson Helicopter Company R44 II

(Pilot) Started Losing Considerable Lift Accompanied By The Sound Of Blades Whooshing

On November 7, 2024, about 0837 Pacific standard time, a Robinson Helicopter Company R-44 II, N4361R, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Durkee, Oregon. The pilot was not injured. The helicopter was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 133 external load flight. The pilot reported that he picked up the first sling load and his power check was fine. Once at the mountain campsite, he reassessed the winds and power then descended at a rate of about five ft per minute.

The glideslope/glidepath is based on the following: Electronic components emitting signals which provide vertical guidance by reference to airborne instruments during instrument approaches such as ILS; or, Visual ground aids, such as VASI, which provide vertical guidance for a VFR approach or for the visual portion of an instrument approach and landing.
