Shooter In Will Rogers Airport Homicide Identified As Former Southwest Employee

Shot Former Supervisor In What Is Described As A Revenge Crime

The person who shot a Southwest Airlines supervisor Tuesday at Will Rogers World Airport (KOKC) in Oklahoma City, OK Tuesday has been identified as a former employee of the airline.

The McClatchy news service reports that the shooter has been identified as Lloyd Dean Buie. The supervisor was 52-year-old Michael Winchester, who was killed as he walked to his car in an employee parking lot. Buie then took his own life.

Oklahoma City Police Capt. Paco Balderrama said in a news conference Wednesday that it had been confirmed that Buie's intention "was to go to the airport and hurt someone, and he did."

Buie had worked as a ramp agent for Southwest from 1999 to 2015, according to Southwest spokeswoman Brandy King. He resigned after exhibiting signs of being intoxicated at work and refusing to be tested, King said.

Balderrama said that Buie waited for an undetermined amount of time for Winchester to leave work. Since he would have been aware of the work schedule, he may have arrived only a short time before Winchester went to his car. Authorities are reviewing security videos to determine a timeline for the shooting.
