VoltAero Wins The Prestigious Europe 1 'Trophy Of The Future'

Recognized For Its Pioneering Development Of The Cassio e-Aircraft

VoltAero’s visionary – and pragmatic – approach to the development of its Cassio e-aircraft family was recognized this week with a “Trophy of the Future,” awarded by French-based broadcaster Europe 1.

An independent jury selected VoltAero in the trophy’s “Mobility” category from a field of five competing companies, all of which were chosen as finalists based on their innovation, technology and long-term commitment. The jury acknowledged VoltAero’s realistic approach in evolving its Cassio product line, creating a family of aircraft seating four to nine persons for use in such applications as on-demand air taxi/charter service, commercial regional commuter operations, pilot training, cargo and social services.

In accepting the award, CEO and Chief Technical Officer Jean Botti underscored VoltAero’s modular approach to its e-aircraft development, with the Cassio aircraft family being adaptable for hybrid-electric flight, all-electric flight, as well as the use of biofuel in hybrid-electric flight when such fuel becomes more readily available. “Throughout history, the dream has always been to fly,” he said. “Humankind should not be prevented from doing so in our lifetime because of today’s environmental challenges. Aviation must successfully coexist with the environment, and VoltAero is firmly committed to help overcome the challenges.”

He thanked the VoltAero team – led by Technical Director Didier Esteyne – which is busy preparing the company’s Cassio 1 demonstrator aircraft for its imminent start-up of hybrid-electric flight testing. “This is the third electric aircraft we have developed together, and such expertise is unequalled in the aviation industry,” Botti added. “It has shaped our step-by-step strategy in evolving the portfolio of Cassio aircraft.”

Europe 1’s 2020 “Trophies of the Future” marked the broadcaster’s fifth such competition, with 43 nominees vying this year in eight different categories: mobility, environment, education, local communities, solidarity, health, food, and a favorite chosen by listeners.
