SkyDrive Opts for Avidyne Avionics for Future eVTOL Aircraft

Quantum to Serve as Basis for Future SkyDrive Flight Deck

Japanese eVTOL manufacturer-to-be SkyDrive announced the selection of Avidyne’s Quantum system at the recently concluded AirVenture 2023, choosing the flexible suite to provide “customized, certified avionics” for its upcoming 3-seat electric aircraft.

The company has continued to press onwards in recent months, tweaking and modifying their basic design while adding a little more capacity and performance wherever possible. A big update to the eVTOL came in June, when the firm elected to add a 3rd seat to the 1 pilot / 1 pax design it had launched with. It bumped max gross up quite a bit too, pushing it up to 3,100 lbs for an extra 700 lbs of payload. Range similarly increased by about 5 km on the spec sheet. Not long after, SkyDrive announced its future manufacturing partner, Suzuki. From the sound of things, their efforts are picking up speed as they too gallop along in the eVTOL market’s race to primacy. For now, the

“We are very pleased to have Avidyne as our avionics partner for our eVTOL aircraft, the SKYDRIVE. Avidyne’s Quantum avionics system is very competitive in performance, weight, and cost and will play one of the most important roles of the aircraft system of eVTOL,” said SkyDrive Chief Development Officer Arnaud Coville.

“The avionics requirements and mission profiles of the all-electric SkyDrive eVTOL aircraft are a unique opportunity for Quantum’s open avionics platform and we are honored to have been selected to create a customized avionics solution for this innovative new aircraft,” said Avidyne Chief Executive Officer Dan Schwinn.
