Helicopter Down In Maryland May Have Experienced Tail Rotor Problems

Accident Occurred Sunday, Only Minor Injuries Reported

Two people were slightly injured Sunday when a helicopter that had been acquired by its current owner two months ago went down in on Hart-Miller Island near Middle River, MD.

The aircraft was a Brantly B-2B, according to the FAA. The aircraft departed Martins State Airport on a local flight. The FAA said the aircraft experienced a "hard landing" and rolled onto its side after impacting the ground.

Television Station WBAL reports that a witness said he watched the aircraft "maneuver in distress" before going down. A pilot for the station said he thinks the aircraft had an issue with its tail rotor, though he had only seen the wreckage of the aircraft from the air.

It is not clear who is the owner of the aircraft. The person listed as the current owner in the FAA registry said he had sold it a couple of months ago, but did not say who had purchased the aircraft.

Maryland State Police said that the two people on board suffered only minor injuries in the incident. The NTSB has been notified.
