What're You Paying?

100LL and Jet-A prices have hit $4/gallon in some areas, and we're told a quart of oil can cost over $7, if you have the misfortune to need it at the wrong FBO. Aero-News was wondering, just how much does fuel (100 LL and Jet) cost, nowadays?

At fillupflyer.com, we noted that 100LL is running $3.85/gallon in several regions, and Jet-A runs $3.97. Other fuel-price websites (coltinternational.com) show more detail, and can help fliers make regional decisions.

We found that the cheapest avgas was found in Kansas and New Mexico, unless you count the $1.53 advertised at DFW. That Texas gas, though, comes only after a $60.00 hookup charge is assessed, so a "sip" can be expensive.

What's it really cost?

Anyhoo, we're interested in where you find your lowest-cost accommodations; and we're really interested in where you might see your highest costs.

Of course, there's more to "costs" than the pump price. Tie-down, hangaring, overnight fees, hookups -- and that intangible that means so much: service. The fueler who goes that extra mile, who knows how to treat your aircraft like something special, who doesn't drag the fuel hoses over your vortex generators, spill water into your tank, and use filthy rags on your windscreen -- those people are worth more, and they often command more. On the other hand, some places offer excellent service, and still don't charge the Earth for it.

Do you check fuel prices at your destinations and alternates? Do you use an online service? Which one? Let's hear (100 words or less) about your favorites, your least-favorites. (Please also include contact information, so we can verify.) Prices vary day by day, so let us know when you got that super deal! Thanks!
