AD: Leonardo S.p.A. Helicopters

AD NUMBER: 2019-12-15

PRODUCT: Certain Leonardo S.p.A. (Leonardo) Model AB139 and AW139 helicopters.

ACTION: Final Rule.

SUMMARY: This AD requires replacing screws installed on the left and right main landing gear (MLG) shock absorber assembly.

This AD was prompted by a report that some screws may have been manufactured without meeting specifications.

DATES: This AD is effective August 2, 2019.

COST: The FAA estimates that this AD affects 111 helicopters of U.S. Registry. Operators may incur the following costs in order to comply with this AD:
Labor costs are estimated at $85 per hour.
Replacing the screws on the left and right MLG assemblies requires about 16 work-hours and $200 for parts, for a total cost of $1,560 per helicopter.

According to Finmeccanica's service information, some of the costs of this AD may be covered under warranty, thereby reducing the cost impact on affected individuals.
