Upcoming Executive Orders Could Ban DJI Drones

White House Runs Mandated National Security Review of Chinese Tech

Upcoming executive orders under President Trump could put an end to the game of tag that has left Chinese drone manufacturer DJI on the run from a US import ban for years. The orders aim to target alleged security risks and boost domestic production rates.

Bell FLRAA Gets Designation as MV-75

Name Commemorates Army Birth Year, Mission, But No Word Yet on a Name

Bell’s new tiltrotor prototype has been officially given a name under the Future Long Range Assault Aircraft program, designating it the MV-75. Those in the game for a while may recall the aircraft used to be called the Bell V-280 Valor, but that was its old, square, commercial name, replaced by a cooler military designation instead. "MV" is for "Multi-Mission Vertical (Takeoff)", and -75 is to commemorate the Army's founding year of 1775.

Airborne Affordable Flyers 06.05.25: New RV15 Wing, Scalebirds, Waiex-B Honors

Also: AV-30-C Software Upgrade, Paraglider Extremes, EarthX STC for Pitts, Vintage Aircraft Association

Not only have the folks at Van’s Aircraft designed a new wing for the RV-15, but they just started flying it. One of the most anxiously awaited aircraft expected at Oshkosh 2025 seems to be hitting its final strides before Van’s freezes the design and starts on a path to kithood. The new wing offers a number of upgrades including an expansion of fuel capacity to 60 gallons, and the first flight apparently met with the approval of those involved in the initial flight test, though data is slim at this point. The first in the Scalebirds

FedEx Pilots Continue the Wait for a New Contract

Company Reorganization Clouds the Crystal Ball

FedEx pilots remain locked in negotiations with their employer, languishing in federally mediated bargaining amidst a shifting corporate landscape. ALPA bargainers aren't pleased with corporate at all, especially since FedEx is planning to separate its Freight division in 2026. Pilots are beginning to feel like the company is dragging its feet, especially since they're still pretending the contract will apply to the old FedEx structure. Frankly, it sounds like a mess, and a very protracted process to be in so many years after the rest of the industry finished their negotiations.

A California Superior Court judge recently ruled that GAMI’s unleaded avgas does not meet the legal definition of “commercially available,” meaning FBOs and distributors in the state are not required to stock or sell it, particularly not in place of 100LL. The decision follows a motion by the Center for Environmental Health (CEH) seeking to enforce a 2014 consent judgment requiring fuel sellers to offer a lower-lead alternative when one becomes widely available. The FAA has required SpaceX to conduct an investigation of the Starship Flig

From 2021: The Inside Skinny On What Being An ANN Oshkosh Stringer Is All About

By ANN Senior Stringer Extraordinare, Gene Yarbrough The annual gathering at Oshkosh is a right of passage or a pilgrimage to Mecca for many. However the rank and file public rarely have the opportunity to experience the FULL Oshkosh experience. Oshkosh, like onions and ogres, is a multi-layered microcosm within the enigma of the greater Wisconsin county in which it transpires. The Aero-News Network stringer has opportunity, and if so inclined, the access to every aspect of general aviation including the "behind the scenes" view few even know exist.

Aero-TV: Fly Corvair’s Reliable Engine Alternative

William Wynne Builds Practical Aircraft Engines on the Corvair Platform

Seeking an affordable alternative to the traditional aircraft engine options, Fly Corvair has been building and supplying Corvair conversions since 1989. The goal of company owner William Wynne was to keep the simplicity, reliability, and durability of the brands we know and love while making them accessible to the experimental community. The Corvair conversion is a six-cylinder, horizontally opposed, air-cooled, direct-drive engine, following the same basic architecture as certified Lycomings and Continentals. The design even sheds a few pounds and inches, making them well

As the air traffic controller shortage trudges on, the US Department of Transportation is rolling out even more financial incentives (aka bribes) to encourage experienced controllers to remain on the job beyond retirement age. The latest offer is a 20% annual bonus. Vertical Aerospace announced that its VX4 eVTOL performed its first successful winged flight with a pilot at the controls, marking the first piloted wingborne flight of a winged eVTOL in open European airspace. GE Aerospace Bolsters Hypersonic Testing Capabilities

Upgrades Will Allow Testing of Bigger, Badder Systems in Race for Hypersonic Supremacy

GE Aerospace will spend a good chunk of money on its testing infrastructure at 3 locations, beefing up their ability to "conduct higher-mach, mission-relevant testing at a scale not previously possible." The first locale to get an upgrade is Evendale, Ohio, where GE will upgrade a facility to "provide dedicated test support for larger hypersonic propulsion systems than previously possible." The upgrades will allow for testing at higher Mach numbers than previously possible, while enabling more faithful simulation of real-world flight conditions.

After 6 were killed in a helicopter crash over the Hudson River, several US Representatives presented bizarre legislation that would ban pretty much all non-essential helicopter operations across New York City. The bill addresses a general heightened concern for growing air traffic rates in high-density areas and new irrational anti-aviation sentiment. Around 3,000 machinists from two Pratt & Whitney plants in Connecticut officially inked an end to a three-week strike over wages, job security, and retirement benefits by approving a four-year contract.

Jared ‘Rook’ Isaacman has been dropped, shortly before a final confirmation vote, as the Trump admin nominee to head NASA. The move has shocked the space community, who seemed fairly well aligned in their support for the two-time private astronaut. A routine paragliding equipment test went wrong when a strong updraft pushed the pilot to an altitude of 28,000 feet. He was able to regain enough control to get back on the ground, where he will stay for the next six months due to the flight ban imposed thereafter. Experienced Chinese pa

While there has been some consideration, off and on, toward updating the nearly 5 pound book, the near implosion of the SportPlane and kit industry over the last decade has made such a pursuit an unwieldy one... until now.
