Boeing, Qatar Airways Reportedly Near Major Deal

Carrier Could Order Up To 30 Long-Range Airliners

A deal is reportedly in the works that would see Qatar Airways purchase up to 30 long-range Boeing airliners, made up of 777s and 787s.

Bloomberg Markets reports that that the talks got a boost when the U.S. government approved the sale of F-15 fighter jets to Qatar after a long delay.

If it goes through, the deal would be worth some $6.7 billion at list prices, but planemakers normally offer significant discounts, particularly on large orders.

Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker said in August that it was on the verge of making a large purchase made up of both Boeing and Airbus airplanes. Approval of the deal for the F-15s was reported last week by Bloomberg News.

The relationship between Qatar Airways and Airbus is "very strained" according to the report. The airline recently shifted an order for A320neo airplanes to Boeing 737 MAX airliners. Al Baker also has reportedly been displeased with the delivery schedule of A350 aircraft it has on order from Airbus.
