Wal-Mart Donates $25,000 To Corporate Angel Network

Contributes Funds And Flights On Company Planes

Corporate Angel Network (CAN), the national public charity that provides free air transportation to treatment for cancer patients by using empty seats on corporate and fractional aircraft, announced Thursday the receipt of a $25,000 charitable donation from Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.

A CAN participant since 1989, Wal-Mart has actively sought opportunities to help the organization by providing both funding and flights.

"If you look at the leadership role Wal-Mart is taking in the health care discussion in America -- from providing $4 prescription drugs, offering retail clinics in our stores to continually improving the affordability and accessibility of the health care plans we offer our own associates, Corporate Angel Network is a natural fit," said Wal-Mart Vice President of Aviation, Dan Williams. "We are proud to support an organization that makes such a positive difference in the lives of cancer patients on a daily basis."

Many cancer patients, who would otherwise be medically underserved, receive potentially life-prolonging treatment as a result of CAN’s service and the support of Wal-Mart and the other 500 major corporations who provide empty seats on their business flights to cancer patients needing to travel for treatment. 

"Wal-Mart exemplifies the best of corporate citizenship," said Corporate Angel Network’s Executive Director, Peter Fleiss. "The company has actively sought us out over the years looking to fly more cancer patients.  We are extremely pleased by this act of generosity and look forward to our continued association with Wal-Mart for many years to come."
