CBP Opens Facility At Plattsburgh International Airport

Ribbon Cut On New Federal Inspection Station Last Week

A new Federal Inspection Station has been opened at Plattsburgh International Airport (KPBG), making it an Airport of Entry to the United States.

Air travellers, including those travelling by private aircraft, are required to check in at the nearest customs facility when they cross an international border. Plattsburgh is located in northeastern New York near the Canadian Border.

Radio station WAMC reports that Champlain Area Port Director Steven Bronson said that the opening of the new center at Plattsburgh allows CBP to clear a wider range of aircraft at the airport, including commercial flights, general aviation, military flights and aircraft being brought in for repair or refurbishment. "We envision welcoming vacationers, business visitors, international athletes and returning residents while fully completing our core Homeland Security mission,” he said.

Airport manager Christopher Krieg said he anticipates business growth to accompany the opening of the new facility. "This adds a new dynamic to our operation that we didn’t have previously you know for charters, international charters, commercial cargo. It’s a good opportunity for us and it’s been a long awaited opportunity,”  he said.

Krieg said the new customs facility and adjacent new cargo terminal were built at a cost of about $8 million.
