Accident Fatally Injures Business Leader In North Carolina

PA-28 Went Down During Departure From Air Harbor Airport

An accident in Guilford County, NC has fatally injured a prominent member of the Greensboro community.

Frank Richard Mascia Jr. was the president of the Greensboro Police Foundation and a member of the Cone Health Foundation Board of Directors.

Mascia was departing from Air Harbor Airport just north of Greensboro in a Piper PA-28 Cherokee when it went down about 200 yards from the end of Runway 27. Airport owner Ron Murphy told the Greensboro News & Record that the plane departed, "and we didn't hear him." They found the aircraft suspended in a tree.

Television Station WGHP reports that Mascia was described as an "accomplished pilot" who had been recognized by the FAA in 2013 for his skills and his aviation education. The plane was owned by a friend of Mascia's, the station reported.
