Aero-TV: Float ‘em, If You Got ‘em – Mead Floats For SportPlanes

Mead Floats Adds Incredible Capability and Adventure to Today's SportPlanes

While at the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring, Florida, ANN News Editor Tom Patton does more than look at airplanes and engines. In this interview, Tom talks with John Moreland, a Managing Partner with SWT Floatplanes.

SWT Floatplanes markets the MeadFloats line of high technology carbon fiber floats for light sport aircraft. The floats being shown are mounted on a Sport Cub and are designed for operation on water or land.

Tom asks some interesting questions which included how the floats affect the in-flight handling characteristics of the Sport Cub, and what it’s like to land a Sport Cub about 5 feet higher off the ground than would be normal in its taildragger configuration. Moreland explains the operation of the floats and gives us interesting insights to its takeoff and landing characteristics on dry land. This video provides an informative look at float plane operation.

Did you know floats can actually provide lift in flight? Watch the video and learn more.
