PW210S Turboshaft Engine Powers Newly Certified Sikorsky S-76D

Modular Design Makes Operation And Maintenance Easy

When Sikorsky Aircraft begins deliveries of the newly FAA certified S-76D medium-sized helicopter this year, it will be powered by one of the industry's most advanced turboshaft engines, Pratt & Whitney Canada's (P&WC) PW210S. The announcement was made during the NBAA's 65th annual meeting and convention in Orlando, Florida.

Sikorsky's S-76D helicopter achieved first flight in February of 2009. The PW210S engine received Transport Canada type certification in October of 2011 and FAA validation two months later. Production of the engine started in February of this year. The S-76D targets corporate, offshore oil, medical, airline and government operators around the world. "The PW210S has been designed to offer the highest power-to-weight ratio and lowest fuel burn in the helicopter market, which translates into payload and range benefits for the helicopter," said Richard Dussault, vice-president, marketing, P&WC. "Its state-of-the-art FADEC offers a step change in ease of operation and safety."

The PW210S is a new generation engine for large single and intermediate-to-medium twin helicopters in the 1,000 shp class. The engine was designed with the operator in mind, delivering a wide range of power options for reliability and durability. The engine's simple construction and design enables easy maintenance. The PW210S is a member of the PW210 engine family designed to deliver P&WC's legendary performance, said Dussault, "and demonstrates our firm commitment to developing innovative products built to satisfy customers' ever-growing needs and expectations.

"Our helicopter engine deliveries have more than tripled in the past decade based largely on the investments we have made across multiple engine models, including the PW200." In addition to the most advanced engine technology available, helicopter operators depend heavily on P&WC's world-class customer service and worldwide network always ready to respond. At the heart of our service network are 100 field service representatives, located across the globe, bringing OEM expertise to our customers and backed by a comprehensive array of service personnel and diagnostics tools to ensure that our engine operates safely and reliably.
