Air Force's Launch Contracts Delayed

Boeing/Lockheed Martin Flap May Have Something To Do With It

Since Boeing's admission of the guilt of some of its employees in winning a DoD contract for the Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle program, over rival bidder Lockheed Martin, and the ensuing lawsuit brought by the latter company, schedules at the Air Force have been readjusted.

Speaking with Reuters at the Paris Air Show on Tuesday, Boeing's Integrated Defense Systems CEO, Jim Albaugh, revealed, "There was supposed to be an award for another four [launches] this year. As a result of some of the ongoing activities, I think that's been pushed off. When they [the Air Force] have that competition and how many it will be, I just don't know."

Boeing fired two of the employees in question; the company 'disciplined' a third. Two days after Boeing admitted wrongdoing in full-page newspaper ads, Lockheed Martin filed suit in the matter. The contract, which Boeing won, was worth $1.88 billion.
