Four Fatally Injured In Tupelo, MS Accident

Pilot Reported Smoke In The Cockpit Before Plane Went Down

A Beechcraft BE36 Bonanza airplane with four people on board went down Monday morning near Tupelo, MS after the pilot reported smoke in the cockpit of the aircraft.

The FAA said in a statement that the airplane went down shortly after takeoff about a half-mile from Tupelo Regional Airport at about 0830 local time. The four on board were traveling from Kerrville, TX to Charlottesville, VA, and had landed Sunday in Tupelo, according to FlightAware.

ABC News reports that, according to the FAA, the pilot reported that there was smoke in the cockpit of the airplane. "We got smoke in our cockpit. We need to come back around," he reportedly said.

Tupelo police chief Bart Aguirre said the wreckage of the airplane was "very broken up."
