Microsoft Flight Sim Adds Volocopter VoloCity

Sim Update VII Adds the eVTOL Aircraft As Free DLC

The Volocopter VoloCity eVTOL aircraft has been officially added to the roster of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, granted through the application's Sim Update VII. The 33.4 gigabyte update added the first vertical takeoff and rotorcraft to the game as part of a joint effort with Volocopter as a multi-function advertisement, update, and training tool.

The announcement of the impending release was given the day before release at CoMotion LA from Volocopter's CCO, Christian Bauer, saying: “We partnered with the experts at Urban Movement Labs to approach important stakeholders in Los Angeles, a highly relevant US city for us. Now, we are bringing our aircraft to the city to empower people with knowledge about UAM and first-hand experience with our aircraft. We are providing this learning opportunity onsite at CoMotion LA and virtually also to people across the world on 18 November with the new Microsoft Flight Simulator release, where Volocopter is included as the first electric air taxi.”

The downloadable content is the result of the company working with nonprofit Urban Movement Labs, an org dedicated to the rollout of new advanced air mobility tech throughout Los Angeles. The partnership will move to network with the necessary interest groups to roll out needed infrastructure throughout the valley, a location that some say desperately needs the benefits of the eVTOL taxi. Volocopter has had a busy year, conducting the first crewed test flight of the aircraft's type in the USA, while building relationships with the essential movers and shakers in the community to get their VoloCity off the ground and in service as soon as possible. The inclusion of the aircraft will show legions of aviation enthusiasts how far the market has evolved, allowing them to conduct their own practice and leisure flights around scenic landmarks in any of the beautifully rendered locations in Microsoft Flight Sim.

“Volocopter’s vision of urban air mobility is compelling, and we are delighted to present a hands-on preview of the aircraft inside Microsoft Flight Simulator," said Jorg Neumann, head of MFS. "We had a great time working closely with the engineering and design teams at Volocopter during the last 6 months and are pleased with how accurate the electric VoloCity was realized in Microsoft Flight Simulator. [Now], flight simmers and aviation enthusiasts everywhere can experience this extraordinary aircraft for the first time.”
