Mousetrap Traps TSA

Complicated Gizmo Too Much for TSA's Highly-Trained Screeners; Area Evacuated

The TSA's spokesman explained, "When you looked at the monitor, it had all these wires and looked very, very suspicious." Even the TSA's really smart dogs apparently couldn't figure it out.

The TSA evacuated the Tampa (FL) airport's ticketing area, after a screener saw a scary thing in the scanning X-ray unit. A bomb squad robot was dispatched to have a better look. When the machine removed the suspect object from the bag, that object was found to have been a mousetrap. [We shudder to think why the passenger thought it necessary to trap a mouse there --ed.]

While the robot was being sent to check the bag, the TSA ran all the people out of the ticket area. The delay took about 45 minutes, according to one local report.

After airport police and TSA people talked with the owner of the suspect bag, said owner was allowed to proceed. So far, it is not illegal to carry a mousetrap in checked baggage.
