Popular Blogger Was Flying F-21 Kfir Which Went Down Tuesday

Retired Naval Aviator Was Known As Neptunus Lex

A retired naval aviator who blogged under the name Neptunus Lex has been identified as the pilot of an F-21 Kfir jet which went down Tuesday at Naval Air Station Fallon in Nevada on Tuesday. The pilots death was confirmed by the blog.

Neptunus Lex was actually Carroll LeFon, who retired from the Navy in 2008. He had been an instructor for the Navy's Top Gun program, along with several strike fighter squadrons.

The Navy Times reports that after his retirement, LeFon had taken a position with Airborne Tactical Advantage Co., the contractor which supplies airplanes and pilots to simulate enemy aircraft for combat instruction.

LeFon started his blog in 2003, offering a viewpoint about the Iraq war that ran counter to the mainstream media reports he said were detrimental to the military's will to fight. He blogged anonymously mindful of possible repercussions to military members who publicly express opinions.

Later, he wrote about his Navy experiences, his transition into retirement, and then to civilian life. He wrote that he loved flying the Kfir, saying it gave him a chance at a second career that few fighter pilots have.
