Airborne Affordable Flyers 06.12.25: Sonex High-Wing, Stunning 'RV916', VoltAero

Sonex Aircraft announced that its high-wing prototype aircraft has had its first engine start, which fired up with no issues and it also successfully completed its first taxi and brake tests. Sonex said the aircraft has a short task list yet to complete before first flight, which it hopes to achieve before Oshkosh. The company is eagerly awaiting the aircraft registration to be returned by the FAA and final inspection. NTSB Final Report: Just Highlander

Airplane Was On Short Final To Land On A Grass Airstrip, Close To The Ground, The Wing Flaps Retracted From 40° To 0° Uncommanded

Analysis: The pilot reported that when the airplane was on short final to land on a grass airstrip, close to the ground, the wing flaps retracted from 40° to 0° uncommanded, and the airplane started to sink. The pilot added engine power to arrest the descent; however, the airplane landed hard. The pilot taxied the airplane without further incident. A postlanding examination of the airframe revealed substantial damage to the fuselage on the right side.

Secondary Radar/Radar Beacon (ATCRBS) A radar system in which the object to be detected is fitted with cooperative equipment in the form of a radio receiver/transmitter (transponder).
