Ogden Airport Dispute Continues

As Lawsuit Moves Onward, Ogden City Makes A Play

Ogden, Utah pilots got some news this week when the city issued a new round of offers to leasees amid a lawsuit between the Ogden Regional Airport Association. The letter essentially offers current tenants a chance to enter into a hangar lease with the city, only if they waive, settle, and release any claims they may have related to previous leases and renewals. President Emeritus of the ORAA, Ed McKenney, sounded the clarion call to members, advising them that entering into the lease would give up their claim in the ongoing lawsuit.

The high-wing, tricycle geared Merlin LIte provides the soul of an old Cessna 152, updated and lightened for the modern era while meeting stringent weight and cost requirements.

Aero-TV: Korean War Hero Twice Reborn

The Life, Death, Life, Death, and Life of a Glorious Warbird

In 1981, business-owner Jim Tobul and his father purchased a Chance-Vought F4U Corsair. More accurately, the two men purchased three truckloads of parts that, over the following decade, they fashioned into a flying warbird. That Jim Tobul is an FAA-certified A&P/IA and pilot was critical to the endeavor, but not so critical as the father-and-son team’s passion for aviation, the Corsair, and the history embodied in the aircraft to which they dedicated vast tracts of their lives.

Snowed-in Residents Airlifted to Safety

Cali National Guard Aids Stranded San Bernadinians

Rare snowfall in southern California left members of some affected communities stranded, with rescue arriving in the form of Cali National Guard Black Hawks. A late-February blizzard east of Los Angeles slammed the San Bernardino Mountain range, where thousands of people live in forest communities or recreational getaways. Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency after parts of the state were sacked in with more than 8 feet of snow, trapping some in their homes as crews worked around the clock to clear roads and highways.

Ukrainian Fighter Pilots Head to Tucson

While F-16 Deliveries Far From Guaranteed, Evaluation Could Determine Training Curriculum

A pair of Ukrainian pilots made their way to the US to be evaluated for possible training or advice for the country's air forces. So far, only 2 pilots have been brought over to Tucson, Arizona, where they will operate the F-16 simulators on premises. Up to 10 more of their comrades may join them in the coming weeks. The effort doesn't necessarily have a nailed down goal, being intended as a kind of survey of Ukrainian skills.

Flyers Rights Loses on Appeal

D.C. Court of Appeals Says FAA not Required to Adopt Seating Rules

The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the FAA needn’t set standards regarding the number of seats and their density in commercial passenger aircraft unless impacting safety. The decision strikes a blow to the plaintiff, Flyers Rights. They had hoped that the lawsuit would impel the FAA “to commence rulemaking to establish minimum seat size and spacing requirements for commercial aircraft,” and to issue a final rule cementing the standard.

FedEx Pilots Vote for Strike Authorization

Strike Still Far Off, But Technically on the Table

FedEx pilot leaders unanimously passed a resolution authorizing their ALPA chair Chris Norman to call for a strike authorization vote. The leadership notes that the strike would only occur if negotiations break down and the federal government authorizes a walkout after the parties exhaust the required procedures of the Railway Labor Act. In such a case, the National Mediation Board would have to release both sides from mediation. Then, after a 30-day cooling off period, both would need to go through 'self-help', which could include a strike by the union or lockout by FedEx.

Aero Linx: Civil Aeronautics Administration (Taiwan)

The Republic of China set out to build its civil aviation industry early after the country was established. In the eighth year of the R.O.C., an aviation governmental agency was already set up to take charge of the country’s aviation affairs. In the 18th year of the R.O.C., the agency became a sub-unit of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. After the Second World War, to develop and manage civil aviation businesses, on January 20, 1947, the Civil Aeronautics Administration was founded in Nanjing under the MTC, listed as a third-rank central governmental agency under the Executive Yuan. The Administration’s rules for
