Teenage Pilot Fatally Injured In Mississippi Accident

Lake Little, 18, Went Down On The Ole Miss Golf Course

An 18-year-old girl who had aspirations of flying for FedEx was fatally injured Saturday when the plane she was flying went down on the Ole Miss Golf Course.

Lake Little was the daughter of Starkville, MS Alderman David Little and his wife Pattie, according to a report from Fox News. The accident occurred Saturday afternoon at about 3:15 p.m. local time, and Little succumbed to her injuries later that day.

Little was practicing takeoffs and landings at the University-Oxford Airport when the plane went down for unknown reasons. A post-impact fire ensued, and Little suffered serious burns as a result of the accident. She was the only person on board the airplane, according to University of Mississippi spokesman Rod Guajardo.

Little was scheduled to compete in the Mississippi Miss Hospitality pageant later this month. The winner of the pageant promotes tourism to the state for a year. According to her pageant profile, Little hoped to become a pilot for FedEx.

While she hoped to be a professional pilot, she had planned to study speech pathology and audiology at the University of Southern Mississippi, and had a goal of opening a clinic to help children and the elderly while also pursuing an aviation career.
