ANN REALTIME UPDATE 10.15.06 1400 EDT: Damn... Aero-News has just learned pilot Nancy Lynn died Sunday afternoon from injuries suffered in an accident Saturday during her performance at a Virginia air show.

Lynn was taken to a Charlottesville, VA hospital, following the accident during her performance Saturday afternoon at the Culpeper Air Fest 2006.

Lynn had just completed her sixth in a series of low-level "flat spins" when the Extra 300L impacted the ground alongside the runway at Culpeper Regional Airport.

Lynn's 18-year-old son, Peter, was narrating his mother's performance as the accident occurred. He immediately rushed to the scene, along with Culpeper County Administrator Frank Bossio, as the plane caught fire.

"Frank was really the first person trying to get the plane flipped over," said Peter Lynn, adding it appeared his mother was trying to landing the plane when "the wing caught on the ground and the airplane landed on its side."

Brandy Station Second Assistant Chief Rick Lane told reporters Lynn suffered burns over about 90 percent of her body. Bossio was treated for second degree burns to his hands.

The FAA is onscene to begin its investigation. This is the first crash in the 10-year history of the airshow.

The accident is the second fatal crash to strike the airshow community in as many weeks. As Aero-News reported, Dr. Guy Baldwin was killed October 4 during a performance in his Extra 300L on the opening day of the 14th Annual Tucumcari Rotary Club Air Show in New Mexico.

Lynn (above) was the owner of Lynn Aviation, an aerobatic flying school based at Maryland's Bay Bridge Airport (W29).
