"There wasn't enough time to allow us to give the FAA 30 days' notice.... They didn't want to continue an airport at that site. Once they canceled the lease, we had no basis for continuing to operate an airport at that location. We have a substantial amount of evidence supporting the fact that our closure falls within the exceptions to that rule, and we want the opportunity to present that information."

Source: Chicago Law Department spokeswoman Jennifer Doyle to the Chicago Sun-Times, announcing the city will go to court over a $33,000 fine assessed for the bulldozing of Meigs Field in 2003.
