Multiple Agencies Affect Rescue Of Base Jumper In Arizona

Had Become Trapped On A Sheer Cliff Face In The Superstition Mountains

A base jumper who had been hiking in the Arizona's Superstition Mountains was rescued by multiple agencies after he fell some 40 feet while free climbing up a sheer cliff face.

Television station KPNX reports that, according to a Tween from Superstition Fire and Medical Department (SFMD), the jumper was rescued using a Department of Public Safety Ranger helicopter, which plucked the 49-year-old man from the cliff face. He had fallen about 40 feet and was briefly knocked unconscious, according to the report.

When he regained consciousness after about 10 minutes, he called 911. He was suspended about a thousand feet above the ground by his parachute, which became entangled in the rocks on the cliff.

A DSP crew member was able to cut the man free and hoist him off the cliff.

SFMD said the man was evaluated and appeared to be uninjured.
