Three Injured In Oklahoma Landing Accident

Second Incident At T40 In Less Than a Month

Almost a month to the day after a Beechcraft Baron 58 ground-looped off a turf airstrip at a Marietta, OK restaurant, a Cessna 182 Skylane has crashed while trying to land on the closed Love County airstrip -- injuring three of the four people on board.

According to The Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the accident happened Sunday night near the McGehee Catfish Restaurant, adjacent to the 2,500 foot turf runway. 60-year-old Dennis N. Wilson of Plano, TX was at the controls during a landing attempt on the recently-plowed runway.

The nose gear dug into the soil and caused the aircraft to flip, coming to rest on its back.
Wilson told Troopers he "didn't see" markers on the runway indicating it was closed, according to the Associated Press.

The pilot wasn't injured, but three of his passengers were. They were taken to a hospital where they were treated and released.

"First thing I saw was just kind of cloudy sky and I just thought it was kind of dust flying in the air," restaurant owner Wanda Shellenberger told KTEN-10. "The next thing I knew, a lady had run in and told me that a plane had burst into flames."

Pilot Michael Phillips, 34, was flown to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, TX and admitted in stable condition. One passenger, Calvin Carter, was taken to an area hospital but later released; the fourth person onboard, Roger Burke, declined treatment at the scene.

The C182 passengers were identified as Peggy J. Wilson of Plano, TX; Prescott N. Wilson of Temecula, CA; and Tammy C. Shilds of Richard, WA.

As ANN reported, a passenger onboard a Beechcraft Baron 58 died the afternoon of March 17 and two others were injured, when their plane cartwheeled off the small airstrip following an apparent gear collapse.
