Nonprofit Hopes To Bring Airshow To Vero Beach

KVRB Last Hosted Airshow Over Ten Years Ago

Vero Beach Municipal Airport Director Eric Menger said plans to host an airshow at Vero Beach are underway with three local Exchange Club chapters interested in sponsoring the event. Vero Beach Air Show Inc. is a nonprofit organization that includes members of the Indian River, Vero Beach and Treasure Coast chapters of the Exchange Club.

Menger said the show would be similar in size to other local air shows, including the Stuart Air Show at Witham Field in November featuring both military and non-military aircraft, and includes equipment displays, rides, activities and community/vendor booths. The Vero Beach airport hasn’t hosted a big air show for over ten years.

Vero Beach Air Show Inc. executive Todd Howder told the Palm Beach Post he hopes the revival will attract aviation enthusiasts from St. Lucie County and southern Brevard County to Vero Beach Municipal Airport. All of the proceeds from the air show would benefit local children's charities supported by the Exchange Club. Howder said "Our event will be a full air show. We are in the process of completing a licensing agreement with the city and hope to bring it before the City Council in June."

KVRB currently hosts an annual Aviation Day which is sponsored by Chapter 99 of the EAA every February. Airport Director Menger said he wasn’t sure if that event would continue if the bigger air show proposal is approved. October was chosen as the month for the Vero Beach show as no other local shows are scheduled. Approval would have to come from both the FAA and Department of Defense.
