WI Air Show To Feature B-17 Bomber, Aerobatics, Family Fun

Wings Over Waukesha Air Show Adds Another Aerobatics Act And 1st Tactical Air Wing Demonstration To The Lineup

A fourth aerobatic act has been added to the lineup for the Wings over Waukesha Air Show. Orgnaizers announced Wednesday that former U.S. Air Force A-10 pilot Jim Leavelle will be performing in his T-6, along with Jim "Fang" Maroney Super Chipmunk aerobatics, Dave Dacy-Tony Kazian wingwalking, and Dr Bill Blank Super Decathlon aerobatics.

The air show will be held on August 25 and 26, 2012, at the Waukesha County Airport, and it will feature the EAA’s B-17 “Aluminum Overcast” bomber from World War II, which will offer rides and tours. Veterans who flew in the B-17 in WWII will be near the aircraft to offer their personal experiences and autographs for interested guests. A parachute performance team will kick off the show, the 1st Tactical Air Wing will demonstrate how aircraft are engaged in law enforcement, and a wide array of vintage and contemporary military and civilian aircraft will be in flight and on display to represent the centennial of aviation in Waukesha County.

“The B-17 is the cornerstone of this year’s air show experience, and we have dozens of other aircraft representing the past 100 years of aviation, and they will be flying throughout the day and on display for a close-up view,” said Kurt Stanich, Chairman of Wings over Waukesha. “We have a great variety of food and beverages available, and we encourage everyone to stay late Saturday evening to enjoy a live band and hot air balloon glow,” he added.

“Guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on during the show, a camera and comfortable shoes so they can explore the grounds and enjoy the day with their families,” said Stanich. More suggestions on what to bring are available on the airshow website. Ample parking will be provided for $5 per car on the airport grounds and Waukesha Expo Center properties, and trams will run throughout the day to shuttle guests to the air show entrance, which is especially helpful to those who have difficulty walking longer distances or families with small children.

Tickets to the event are $10 per person for adults, $5 for children ages 10 – 17, free of charge for children ages 9 and under. Advance tickets are now available at the discounted price of $7.00 per adult – a $3 discount – through the Wings over Waukesha website.  Online advance ticket sales will end just before the show on Monday, August 20 at midnight. The discounted tickets will also be sold at the Saturday morning Farmers Market in downtown Waukesha on Aug 18, and they're available for pickup at Freeman Friday Night Live events on August 17 at the ticket booth located in the five-corners intersection.
