Aero-TV: Viking Aircraft Engines - Talking Turbo's... and Other Upgrades

Honda Automotive Engines Serve As The Basis For A Line Of Aircraft Engines For Experimental Airplanes…

While at the DeLand Sport Aviation Showcase 2016, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell stopped by the display of Viking Aircraft Engines to get caught up on what’s new with their unique line of Honda automobile conversion engines for aircraft.

Jim met up with Jan Eggenfellner, who is the President of Viking Aircraft Engines. Eggenfellner talked a bit about their model 130 engine which has been around for about three years, and proven very successful. He said the news for new engines is coming from a new Honda engine being produce for the Honda Civic. Of particular interest is Honda’s new 1.5 liter turbocharged engine that is being offered as an option in their Civic.

Eggenfellner says this engine provides more power through the compression boost and does not rely on the high RPM’s commonly associated with the Honda conversion. He said another advantage is that through turbocharging the engine provides more power at higher altitudes. This variation of engine is now being produced by Viking with a horsepower range of 150, 170, and 190 horsepower.

As you watch the video you’ll learn more about the availability of these engines for installation in various homebuilt airplanes. The video gives you a good look at the engines and you’ll be impressed by their tidy appearance, form, fit, and pricing.
