Porter Airlines Takes Delivery of Two Embraer E195-E2 Jets

From Brazil with Love

Following previous certification of the type by ANAC (Brazil), the FAA (USA), and EASA (Europe), Embraer’s robustly successful E2 family of narrow-body commercial jets, the E195-E2 and E190-E2, has received Type Certification from Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA).

The milestone achievement occasioned the delivery of two E195-E2 jets—the first of fifty—to North American launch customer Porter Airlines, a Toronto-based regional airline operating regularly-scheduled flights between Toronto and locations in Canada and the United States. The delivery ceremony was held at Embraer’s headquarters in São José dos Campos, Brazil. The slick, efficient, environmentally conscious aircraft will further Porter’s aspiration to dramatically expand its extant fleet of 29 De Havilland Canada Q400 turboprops.

Porter Airlines president and CEO Michael Deluce remarked: “The official delivery of these aircraft is the beginning of a new era for Porter. The E195-E2 enables us to reach across the continent, beyond our Eastern Canada roots, while introducing a level of service for economy air travelers that no other North American airline provides. It’s an enhanced experience that builds on our reputation for providing an elevated level of service to every passenger at reasonable prices in a single class of service. The first planes are ready to fly to Canada later this month before going into regular service in February.”

Embraer Commercial Aviation president and CEO Arjan Meijer added: “Porter is focused on delivering what we all want—making the air travel experience a pleasure. Along with their exciting levels of service and generosity, Porter’s entire fleet is also without the dreaded middle seat, and will also satisfy the sustainability needs of Porter’s guests. E195-E2 is the most sustainable single-aisle aircraft, at 65% quieter and up to 25% cleaner than previous-generation aircraft. It has the lowest fuel consumption per-seat and per-trip among 120 to 150 seat aircraft, and is the quietest single-aisle jet flying today.”

In all, Porter Airlines’ orders for Embraer’s E195-E2 airliners number one-hundred: fifty firm commitments and rights to an additional fifty aircraft. In 2021, Porter ordered thirty specimens of the efficient, technologically advanced jet with options for another fifty. The deal, with all options exercised, was valued at $5.82-billion. In 2022, the Canadian carrier placed a firm order—valued at $1.56-billion—for a further twenty E195-E2 aircraft.
