Fulton Co Airport Tower Discontinues Midnight Shift

The NBAA tells ANN that beginning January 1, the control tower at Fulton County Airport (FTY) in Atlanta, GA, will discontinue its midnight shift and adopt new hours: weekdays, closed 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.; weekends, closed 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

The airport itself will remain open 24 hours a day. During hours the control tower is closed, control of the airspace will revert to Atlanta TRACON. Pilots should follow guidelines established for utilizing facilities that have no tower personnel on duty. This closure is a result of a Fulton County Commission decision to withdraw its funding for operation of the contract tower at FTY for the overnight shift.

NBAA, however, has joined with the Georgia Business Aviation Association in voicing its concern to the commission over the decision and has sent a letter protesting this action.
