The CSeries Flight Test Vehicle has completed its first flight.
“During its maiden flight, CSeries FTV1 reached an altitude of 12,500 feet and an air speed of 230 knots," said Rob Dewar, Vice President and General Manager of the CSeries Program. Jonathan Trappe’s dream of floating across the Atlantic Ocean beneath of cluster of helium balloons ended in a safe landing, but on the wrong side of the ocean. Trappe landed his cluster balloon in a remote area of Newfoundland at approximately 1830 EDT Thursday, September 12, 2013. He had launched at about 0800 EDT from Caribou, Maine and had been airborne for only about 12 hours on a flight that was expected to take 3-6 days. Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin will find the cost of flying their fleet of corporate jets and helicopters to be more expensive after a deal that allowed them to buy deeply-discounted fuel from the Pentagon through NASA expired August 31.
