4th Session Of The ATC/NAS Modernization Working Group

Statement From Subcommittee Chair Nehls, Rep. Davids

The U.S. House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee’s Aviation Subcommittee Chairman Troy E. Nehls (R-TX-22) and Representative Sharice Davids (D-KS-03) released the statement below, following the fourth session of the bipartisan ATC/NAS (Air Traffic Control/National Airspace System) Modernization Working Group:

“Today, the bipartisan Air Traffic Control (ATC)/National Airspace System (NAS) Modernization Working Group met with stakeholder groups who represent those involved in general aviation in America.

“From recreational flying to emergency services to non-commercial, non-scheduled civilian flight, general aviation encompasses a wide range of aircraft. Furthermore, general aviation generates billions of dollars in economic activity and provides over a million jobs for hardworking Americans.

“Today’s conversation was extremely productive and provided necessary insight into how America’s air traffic control and national airspace systems can better serve those involved in general aviation.

“We’re thankful for everyone who was involved in today’s bipartisan modernization working group session, and look forward to continuing this open dialogue, which is helping guide the overhauling of our outdated aviation systems.”

The Subcommittee on Aviation has jurisdiction over all aspects of civil aviation. Such areas include safety, infrastructure, commerce, labor, and international issues. In addition, all programs under the FAA, with the exception of research activities, are within the purview of the Subcommittee.

The Aviation Subcommittee also has been the lead subcommittee over the NTSB and the Essential Air Service program.
