Aviation Youth Leader Charged In Child Molestation Case

Authorities Say He Sexually Assaulted A 14-Year-Old Boy He Met Online

One of the leaders of a youth aviation group in Oshkosh, WI has been arrested in connection with an alleged child molestation case.

The Appleton, WI Post-Crescent reports that Robb J. Szymik, 46, who lives in Neenah, WI, was charged July 6 in Outagamie County court. He is accused of using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime, child enticement and two counts of second degree sexual assault of a child and soliciting a child for prostitution.

Court records indicate that Szymik is accused of offering a 14-year-old boy he met online money for sexual contact in May and July.

Szymik had been listed as vice-chairman of the Aviation Explorer Base on the group's website, but his name has since been removed from the site.

At the time of his arrest, police found a name tag in his vehicle that had his title with the Aviation Explorer Base, as well as an invoice that he was in some way connected in a leadership position with the 'EAA Boy Scouts," according to the criminal complaint.

He was immediately removed from any contact with the group after his arrest was revealed. EAA spokesman Dick Knapinski said that the group is not affiliated in any way with the EAA, but is an independent group that volunteers at AirVenture.

According to the complaint:

Szymik was arrested on July 5 in the town of Oneida after an officer was dispatched for a complaint of a suspicious truck parked behind a line of pine trees on a footpath.

The officer found Szymik in the driver's seat wearing only sweatpants and a witness told the officer she saw another person running down the road out of the treeline.

That person was identified as a 14-year-old boy, who told police that Szymik had contacted him online and that the two had had sexual contact in May and on the day of Szymik's arrest.

The boy said that Szymik told him to run and hide in the bushes when the officer showed up. He said he ran away at first but then returned to where the police were.
