Aero-TV At SnF2022: Para-Phernalia Chutes

The ‘Softie’ Side Of Para-Phernalia Emergency Parachutes

Mr. Dan Tarasevich, President of Para-Phernalia Inc took a few moments to talk about the Paraphernalia Emergency Parachutes his company manufactures in Washington state, in the northwest corner of the United States. They manufacture the ‘Softie’ line of emergency parachute systems intended to be used for, as he said “unintentional jumps when the airplane is trying to kill you”.

He went on to state that “to make an intentional jump, you have to have two parachutes on yourself; one is the main parachute, the other being the reserve or the emergency”. They are strictly for emergency use. Those things have been certified with TSO.  He added that, “chances are, you’re never going to use it.” They have sold over 15,000 of these chutes, and approximately 45 or so have been used.

The round parachute canopy is made in Southern California, at a company called Freeflight Enterprises, the Taylors harness is manufactured in Arlington, Washington, about 50 miles north of Seattle. It started as a company manufacturing just harnessing containers for skydiving, and also for pilot emergency. Now they’re making something more comfortable, easy to use, and easier to pack than the competitor. Mr. Tarasevich concluded by saying “I’ve done a lot of test jumps on there. So after 30-40 years of skydiving, it’s just another day at the office, where we stand behind our product 100%, and you won’t find a more comfortable reliable rig on the market”.
