Martha's Vineyard TFR Issued For Obama Vacation

Effective Dates August 23-30

President Obama will be vacationing on Martha's Vineyard next week, which means a TFR has been issued for the duration of the visit. According to the FAA, Area "A" is centered on the Martha's Vineyard VOR/DME extending 30 nm in all directions from the surface up to FL180, while Area "B" is defined as an inner ring extending 10 nm from the VOR/DME from the surface up to FL180. Both are in effect from August 23rd beginning at 1030 to August 30th at 1700.

All aircraft operations within Area "B", known as the inner core, are prohibited except for: approved law enforcement, military aircraft directly supporting the united states secret service (USSS) and the office of the president of the united states, approved air ambulance flights, and regularly scheduled commercial passenger and all-cargo carriers operating under one of the following TSA-approved standard security programs/procedures: Aircraft Operator Standard Security Program (AOSSP), Full All-Cargo Aircraft Operator Standard Security Program (FACAOSSP), Model Security Program (MSP), Twelve Five Standard Security Program (TFSSP) All Cargo, or All-Cargo International Security Procedure (ACISP) and are arriving into and/or departing from Martha's Vineyard airport (KMVY). All emergency/life saving flight (medical/law enforcement/firefighting) operations must coordinate with ATC prior to their departure at 508-968-7126 to avoid potential delays. All other aircraft not operating under a TSA-approved standard security program listed above and arriving KMVY must request a waiver and be security screened at a designated gateway airport. Aircraft departing KMVY during the TFR must also request a waiver and will be screened at KMVY.

For operations within Area "A", known as the outer ring: all aircraft operating within the outer ring are limited to aircraft arriving or departing local airfields, and workload permitting, ATC may authorize transit operations. Aircraft may not loiter. All aircraft must be on an active IFR or VFR flight plan with a discrete code assigned by an ATC facility. Aircraft must be squawking the discrete code prior to departure and at all times while in the TFR and must remain in two-way radio communications with ATC.

The following operations are not authorized within this TFR: flight training, practice instrument approaches, aerobatic flight, glider operations, parachute operations, ultralight, hang gliding, balloon operations, agriculture/crop dusting, animal population control flight operations, banner towing operations, model aircraft operations, model rocketry and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). FAA recommends that all aircraft operators check NOTAMs frequently for possible changes to this TFR prior to operations within this region. The SOSC, Special Operations Support Center, will be available 0600-2000 EST Monday to Friday. 202-267-8276, is the point of contact. The cape TRACON, phone 508-968-7126, is the coordination facility.
