Interjet Takes Delivery Of Its First Airbus A320

Mexican LCC's Plane Sports New Cabin Design

The Mexican low-cost airline Interjet has taken delivery of its first A320 from Airbus.

Interjet started operations in December 2005, with a fleet of seven pre-owned A320s acquired in Europe. Since then, Interjet has placed orders for a total of 20 A320s.

The brand-new A320 delivered Friday will accommodate 150 passengers in a single-class configuration. The aircraft is equipped with CFM56-5B4/P engines from CFM International.

Interjet's new A320 also features the all-new cabin that recently entered service on other members of the A320 Family. Airbus says the new cabin -- which includes larger overhead bins, and reconfigured sidewall panels -- provides more passenger comfort in a modern and bright environment.

"The A320 is without a doubt the reference in the low cost market. It ideally combines unmatched operating costs with the highest level of passenger comfort" says Miguel Aleman, Chairman of Interjet. "It allows us to operate the low-fares and high efficiency concept in the Mexican air transport industry whilst preserving the highest standards of service quality and safety for travellers on domestic routes in Mexico."

Interjet will add the new A320 on its domestic network operating out of Toluca airport, near Mexico City.

"We are pleased to see the rapid expansion of Interjet on the Mexican domestic low-cost market" says John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer Customers, "With this brand-new A320 featuring the new cabin, Interjet's passengers will experience an even higher level of comfort."
