Computer Virus Grounds Flights

Jazz Canceled, Delayed Flights Wednesday

If you think those stinky e-mail viruses are mere annoyances, ask Air Canada Jazz what they think of them. Somewhere, the airline's system picked up a virus that settled into the airline's flight planning software, and it led to some flight cancellations Wednesday. Additional flight delays were reported; and, as the problem dragged into Thursday, the Jazz telephones and website were overwhelmed by customer inquiries.

By Wednesday night, a couple hours after the virus was detected, the airline's parent issued this statement: "Air Canada Jazz apologizes to its customers and is working hard to correct the problem." The virus affected only the regional airline; Air Canada itself wasn't nailed.

The airline Thursday declared the virus (right) defeated; and it's hoping everything will be normal for the weekend.
