Aero-TV: Keeping the Helicycle Legacy Alive

Company Moves Into 10th Generation of Airframes

The Helicycle is not just a home-built rotorcraft kit; it’s a legacy for its founder, B.J. Schramm, and a testament to the community that has upheld his vision. Now, the company is keeping the dream alive with its 10th generation of airframe designs.

Over the years, Helicycle has refined its production processes by introducing new techniques with the same construction materials. The latest generation features vacuum-formed cabins made with resin transfer molding, reducing weight while boosting durability. The company also focused on reinforcing areas of potential weakness to prevent future issues.

This single-seat, experimental helicopter is powered by a 100hp modified T62-T32 turbine engine, achieving a cruise speed of 95 mph. It boasts a 16 gallon fuel tank, allowing for a 100 mile range with included reserves.

Assembling the standard kit takes an average of 450 hours. Helicycle also offers a fast-build option, which knocks around 100 hours off the build time. Customers that need a helping hand can take part in the factory assist program at Helicycle Ventures’s facilities, allowing owners to get as much input as necessary.

“The kit was designed for first time builders. So if you change the oil in your car, and you change the tires, and put new spark plugs in your car, you probably have 90 percent of the tools that you need,” Southard continued. The Helicycle kit is both sleek and high-performing, with a competitive all-in price of $75,000.
