Two Confirmed For Terms On The NTSB

Bruce Landsberg, Jennifer Homendy To Join The Board

Two new members of the NTSB have been confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

Jennifer Homendy, a Democratic staffer on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and Bruce Landsberg, former president of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, were easily confirmed by the Senate on July 24.

Landsberg held leadership roles in the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) Foundation and Air Safety Institute for 22 years before his retirement from the organization in 2014. He has frequently worked with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and other regulatory agencies, and industry groups such as the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA).

The White House nominated Landsberg to serve as NTSB vice chair in September 2017. He is slated to serve a two-year term as NTSB vice-chairman, with his term as a board member extending through Dec. 31, 2022.

"Bruce Landsberg is one of the most knowledgeable and passionate safety proponents our industry has ever seen, and his expertise across several aspects of aviation safety will make him a valued addition to the NTSB," said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. "We look forward working with Bruce towards our mutual goal of making our industry safer."

Landsberg has also been a frequent participant at NBAA events, including sessions focused on utilization of aircraft-based meteorological observations to improve inflight situational awareness, and the use of air traffic control recordings to reconstruct an accident involving a single pilot-operated business aircraft.

He has authored hundreds of articles on aviation safety, and continues to write a periodic "Safety Pilot" column in AOPA Pilot magazine. Landsberg also served as the industry co-chair of the FAA’s runway safety program and for the General Aviation Joint Steering Committee (GAJSC).

The Senate also confirmed Jennifer Homendy to fill the remainder of a board term expiring Dec. 31, 2019. Homendy has served as Democratic staff director for the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee’s railroad, pipelines and hazardous materials subcommittee since 2004.

“NBAA welcomes Jennifer Homendy to her new post at NTSB,” Bolen said. “The association has always had a positive relationship with all NTSB members, and we’re confident this spirit of collaboration will continue with this new addition to the board."
