AMA Drone Report 06.01.17: More Dumb UAV Regs?, Waterproof Drones, Neistat v FAA

Also: National Defense Authorization Act, Laguna Beach Regs, Sporty's Drone Study Buddy

A curious, if not confusing, new bill authored by a bipartisan mix of Senators pretty much wants to do away with Federal preemption and give state and local governments the power to regulate drones flying under 200 feet AGL...

The chaos potential, of course, is huge. Senators Tom Cotton, Dianne Feinstein, Mike Lee and Richard Blumenthal have introduced the Drone Federalism Act. The Senators errantly insist that in the timeframe between September 2015 to September 2016, nearly 1,500 drone incidents were reported. Mind you, such reports have previously been picked apart elsewhere and by a number of authorities. The makers of the Splash Drone have introduced the Splash Drone 3 on Kickstarter with two different versions of the floating drone. The "Auto" variant of the aircraft features a 4K waterproof camera that can take video underwater ... albeit only a few inches deep. The "Fisherman" edition will carry a payload of up to 2.5 pounds, allowing anglers to "drop...  bait further than you could ever imagine." And finally... there’s even more potential drone legislation to worry about... A draft bill making the rounds in Congress would give the federal government the ability to track, take control of, and if ‘necessary’ -- destroy any drone it deems a security threat. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of the AMA Drone Report!!!
