Confirmed: Powrachute To Be Sold

Staff Layoffs Confirmed As Well

Confirming rumors reaching ANN over the last few days, Powrachute founder Bill Amyx has told ANN that he is preparing to sell the company. Reticent to discuss specific details, Amyx noted that business at Powrachute has declined precipitously in the last few years... descending from an impressive 200 airframes per year to barely 50 in the most recent 12 months.

Amyx blames "the whole Sport Pilot thing...," adding that, "I was one of the biggest supporters of Sport Pilot in the business and spent a lot of money promoting it... but the market isn't there."

Amyx also admitted that a number of staffers have been laid off, but indicated that former Powrachute President, Eddie Johnson, left voluntarily and that he expected him to "remain in the business... maybe with the new owners."

Amyx does not know if new owners will elect to keep the company in Kansas and refused to say much about them other than that they were "Familiar" with the sport aviation industry. Amyx sounded bitter about the situation his company found itself in, but seemed to be firm in his comittment to complete current negotiations and sell the company. More info to follow...
