Larry Levin Of Providence, RI Wins IMC Club 'Brown Jacket Award'

Honor Recognizes Excellence In Proficiency, Training, And Service To The Community

This years winner of the IMC Club “Brown Jacket Award” was announced today. This year’s award goes to Larry Levin, instrument pilot from Providence, RI.

The IMC Club International awards the Brown Jacket to one general aviation pilot each year. The award recognizes excellence in three areas: Flight proficiency, Continuing Education and Service to the aviation Community. The designation identifies and publicly recognizes those pilots who are demonstrating an ongoing commitment to excellence, professional growth, and service to the aviation community and it sets standards to which all instrument pilots can aspire.

The designation requires a process of continuing aviation activity and it is awarded annually to one individual only. In addition to the “Instrument Master” leather flight jacket, the winner will receive valuable prizes provided by the IMC Club supporting aviation industry corporate members.

The award is announced each year during the Sun-n-Fun aviation show in Lakeland, Florida starting in 2014 and presented at the AirVenture in Oshkosh, WI.

Larry began flying in 1981. He received his commercial rating in 1989, and an ATP rating in 1992.  Last year he received his commercial glider rating.   He is flying a 1998 Socata Trinidad which, he said - “is a great aircraft due to its nice combination of relative speed, useful load and beauty.”   Larry makes 4-6 trips to the Bahamas each year and the Trinidad makes it a very comfortable flight.

“I am a very strong believer in maintaining flight proficiency and doing as many instrument approaches each month as possible.” - said Larry Levin - “During flights with my instructor, I especially enjoy having to deal with most any non-standard or emergency situation that can be incorporated into the instruction in order to always keep me prepared.  I congratulate the IMC Club for the great work they do in promoting instrument flying, proficiency and safety.  I very much look forward to the monthly IMC local chapter meetings.” - he added

Larry, was born in Providence, RI and presently lives in Lincoln, RI with his wife Lisa and son Alex. He is practicing Dentistry full time in Providence, RI but when not at work or flying,  he enjoys playing tennis and following his Providence College Friars.

“I want to congratulate Mr. Levin on being the recipient of this prestigious aviation award. I would like to also thank him for his contribution to the General Aviation safety by his commitment to his personal flying excellence,” said Radek Wyrzykowski the President of the IMC Club.
