The latest variant of the story comes from Hawaii, where a popular airport known for extensive GA and skydiving activity is under the gun. Dillingham Airfield is Hawaii’s most versatile airport and home to a variety of sky-related activities. Broadcast Message Suggests Attack Will Occur As Revenge By Iran

Both the FBI and the FAA are investigating reports of a Monday afternoon broadcast of a short audio message on air traffic frequencies threatening an attack on the US capitol in revenge for the killing of an Iranian general a year ago. The digitally manipulated voice had a simple message, "We are flying a plane into the capital on Wednesday. Soleimani will be avenged." While law enforcement sources indicate that there is a low probability of a real threat, various federal agencies are taking it seriously for the time being. And further to that, it is highly likely that aviation activity is likely to see some constraints until this matter is put to rest.

As demand for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s collegiate professional Aviation programs continues to grow, so does their fleet. Interim Event Is Looking To Be VERY Popular

We really missed going to the DeLand Sport Aviation Showcase this past November and are looking forward to being there in 2021. BUT... an interim event will be held at the end of the month so that you can still get a taste of sport aviation before spring-time--when we hope other events will finally be ready to do their thing. DeLand's ‘Flyway To Highway’ event is scheduled for January 30th, at the DeLand Municipal Airport from 0900 to 1400, on the ramp at 1000 Flightline Boulevard.

Temporary Shipping Closure Results After Shipping Team Sent Home

The COVID effect continues... this time to the folks at Van's Aircraft. Van's tells us that, "Due to a recent, unfortunate COVID-19 exposure event, we have sent our parts and hardware shipping team home for a 14-day quarantine period. That means we have only a couple of people in place to try to support a workload that is normally staffed by more than 10 individuals. As a result, our shipping department is currently considered to be closed until January 15th, with the exception of bonified emergency shipments..."

Wheels Up Acquires Mountain Aviation

Wheels Up Will Add 59 Total Aircraft -- Most Of Which Are Citation X Aircraft

Wheels Up has acquired Mountain Aviation, a large Part 135 Citation X fleet, with bases in Denver, Teterboro, and Southern California. The acquisition accelerates Wheels Up's platform to better serve increasing flight demand. Mountain Aviation's wholesale charter operations is seen as a perfect complement to Wheels Up's previous acquisition of Travel Management Company. Wheels Up will add 59 total aircraft, most of which are Citation X aircraft, to its fleet and also plans to further expand the Citation X fleet in 2021.

In the midst of a full schedule and the holiday season, Duncan Aviation’s team at its Houston Satellite Shop packed up its tools, equipment, and crew and moved into a newly constructed, state-of-the art hangar at Wilson Air Center at the William P. Hobby International Airport in Houston, Texas. “This new hangar gives our team at the Houston Satellite three times the space and twice the hangar door height as our previous space,” says Manager of Duncan Aviation’s Satellite Operations Matt Nelson. “This means we can bring customers’ aircraft inside the hangar, and we can work on everything up to a Gulfstream G650 in there now.”

On August 2, 2020, about 1010 central daylight time, a Piper PA-30, N7750Y, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident at Shelby County Airport (EET), Alabaster, Alabama. The flight instructor and student pilot were not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 instructional flight. The flight instructor reported that he was providing instruction to a commercial pilot for a multiengine rating. They briefed the procedures for a simulated short field takeoff. Our organization is comprised of professional black women pilots who represent less than ½ of 1% of the total professional pilot career field. Digital-Automatic Terminal Information Service (D-ATIS) The service provides text messages to aircraft, airlines, and other users outside the standard reception range of conventional ATIS via landline and data link communications to the cockpit. Also, the service provides a computer-synthesized voice message that can be transmitted to all aircraft within range of existing transmitters. The Terminal Data Link System (TDLS) D-ATIS application uses weather inputs from local automated weather sources or manually entered meteorological data together with preprogrammed menus to provide standard information to users.
