Airborne-Flight Training 01.07.20: FAA v DPEs, Pilot 100i Trainer, Forces to Fly

Also: B737-800 FFS, Frasca Sim, Educational UAS Protections, Virtual Pilot Job Fair

The Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) tells ANN that the recent termination of a popular DPE by the San Antonio FSDO has highlighted common questions about FAA management in the DPE program nationwide, and SAFE is asking the FAA to study and implement systemic improvements. An FAA Examiner designation is a one-sided arrangement favoring the FAA. The designation is, in the FAA's words, a "privilege not a right" and may be terminated at any time with or without cause. Despite these terms, the FAA has recently

Alaska Airlines has completed an agreement, in principle, with Boeing to restructure the airline's order to receive a total of 68 Boeing 737-9 MAX aircraft with options for an additional 52 planes. Alaska is scheduled to receive 13 planes in 2021; 30 in 2022; 13 in 2023; and 12 in 2024. The delivery schedule will largely replace Alaska's Airbus fleet and moves the airline substantially toward a single, mainline fleet that's more efficient, profitable and environmentally friendly, and that will enhance the guest experience and support the company's growth. Both the FBI and the FAA investigated reports after a Monday broadcast of a short audio message on air traffic frequencies threatening an attack on the US capitol in revenge for the killing of an Iranian general a year ago.
