AFGE: Support For TSA Workforce More Important Than Ever
Thousands of members of the 57 AFL-CIO labor union affiliates
will converge on airports across the country over the next week and
into January in support of Transportation Security Officers, and
efforts by the American Federation of Government Employees to gain
collective bargaining rights at TSA.
"AFGE has been in a campaign to restore the workplace
protections stolen from TSOs for eight years," AFGE National
President Gage said. "It's been a long and difficult fight, and our
TSO members tell us they often feel tired and defeated. The TSOs
are so close to getting the collective bargaining rights they so
desperately need.
"It's more important than ever that we all show support for this
dedicated workforce," Gage continued. "AFGE thanks the AFL-CIO and
all of its affiliates for their unwavering support for TSO
bargaining rights, and for AFGE as the union for TSA workers."
"From the beginning, AFGE has stood with the TSOs to defend
their rights on the job and improve working conditions," AFL-CIO
President Richard Trumka said. "We believe the best way to build
power for all TSOs is to join AFGE and the 11.5 million members of
AFL-CIO affiliated unions."
Unlike stand-alone unions, AFGE enjoys the benefits that come
with being a part of the AFL-CIO, including the umbrella group's
enormous clout across the country. Unions from across the nation
have signed resolutions and letters of endorsements supporting
AFGE's campaign to represent TSOs, and specifically have singled
out AFGE as the overwhelming choice as sole representative of the
TSA workforce.
