EADS Executive Predicts Planemaker 'Alliances'

Gallios: There Is Not Enough Business To Go Around

The chairman of EADS corporation says the world's six major airliner manufacturers will likely have to form "alliances" in the future, as the demand for new airplanes subsides.

EADS executive chairman Louis Gallios told the Spanish newspaper Expansion that the six major players in the airliner market ... Boeing, Airbus (EADS), COMAC, Embraer, Bombardier, and Russia's UAC ... will need to work together to be competitive in the marketplace. ANN reported that Bombardier and COMAC signed such an agreement in March to evaluate potential commonalities between the C919 and CSeries aircraft.

The French news service AFP reports that Gallios said the potential collaborations between not only the aircraft manufacturers but also the companies which supply them  are "a good step. There are too many of them, and an alliance would strengthen them in an increasingly competitive world."
