Alaska Airlines Flight Diverted Minneapolis/St. Paul

'Unruly' Passenger Attempted To Open An Exterior Door

An Alaska Airlines flight from New York City to Seattle was diverted to Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport (KMSP) Monday when a passenger described as "unruly" attempted to open one of the exterior doors on the Boeing 737-800.

The plane landed at KMSP at about 0945 local time, according to the McClatchy news service. Spokeswoman Halley Knigge said the passenger was removed from the plane by law enforcement officers.

The flight, with 181 passengers on board, was delayed for about two hours, according to the report.

Knigge said that the man would have had to overcome several thousand pounds of pressure to open the exterior door on the airplane, which she described as "impossible."

It was not reported if the man was charged.
