New Data Coverage In Scandinavia Also Added For VFR Pilots
Jeppesen recently teamed with audio expert Bose Corporation to provide automatic audio warnings as part of its flight information solution for private pilots flying under visual flight rules – Mobile FliteDeck VFR.

Audio warning functionality continues Jeppesen’s platform of data-driven, or real-time, presentation of flight information for pilots. Pilots are able to connect their Bose A20 Aviation Headsets to the Mobile FliteDeck VFR app via Bluetooth and receive real-time critical airspace and waypoint audio warnings.
“Automated audio warnings in Mobile FliteDeck VFR enhance pilot workflow and reduce ‘head down’ time and manual interaction with their iPad,” said Mike Abbott, director, Jeppesen Navigation & Flight Deck Programs. “Bose is a globally recognized leader in the aviation and audio industry and we are pleased to team with them bringing enhanced situational awareness to VFR pilots.”
Pilots flying in or near controlled airspace receive both visual and audio warnings ensuring airspace awareness. Unique sound and spoken word “airspace” warnings alert pilots to current airspace. If the pilot has defined route waypoints entered in Mobile FliteDeck VFR, similar audio and visual alerts are available to warn them in flight. Pilots also are able to choose which audio alerts they would like to receive, providing a personalized experience.

“Reducing uncertainty in complex airspace enhances flight safety and Bose A20 Aviation Headsets provide exceptional noise reduction and clear audio performance while delivering in flight audio information from Mobile FliteDeck VFR,” said Hratch Astarjian, Manager, Global Aviation Sales, Marketing & Service, Bose Corporation. “We are pleased to team with Jeppesen to enhance the flying experience for private pilots by providing audio warnings that reduce reliance on viewing graphical visual warning data on screen.”
Additionally, the reach of Mobile FliteDeck VFR coverage areas continues to expand, as data is now fully available for Norway, Sweden and Finland. Offering paperless operating capabilities, a recent report by renowned German aviation expert attorney Prof. Dr. Elmar Giemulla concludes that the Jeppesen app is compliant with IATA and EASA regulations for private pilots to fly without paper backup charts.
