Carrier Refreshing Domestic Fleet, Nearly Doubling Order Book

Boeing announced that Japan Airlines finalized an order for an additional 17 of the manufacturer’s 737-8 aircraft to leverage the fuel efficiency and flexibility of the MAX as the carrier looks to launch them as it refreshes its robust domestic fleet.

JAL will benefit from the capabilities of the737-8 as it reduces fuel usage and carbon emissions by 15% compared to the 737-800s they are replacing. In addition, establishing commonalities across the aircraft enables a seamless integration into the current fleet and streamlines maintenance procedures and costs.

We are excited to add more 737-8s to deliver a safe and secure journey to our valued customers with a sophisticated flying experience."

With the new 737-8 aircraft, JAL will introduce the Boeing Sky Interior that offers passengers an enhanced cabin experience that features LED lighting, larger windows, and spacious overhead bins.

JAL is a longtime customer of Boeing and operates 767s, 777s, and Next-Generation 737-800s and was among the first to operate the 787 Dreamliner. The carrier operates more than 50 787-8s and 787-9s, and recently ordered another 10 787-9s to meet the demand for international travel.
